What another cracker of a day. Many thanks to Peter Woods and Jonno Smith who took us through some stream craft on the Brisbane River.
We now have no excuse when confronting a river for trout or in our case bass. Great to see some new faces in the club join us also.
A platapus also joined us later in the day, testifying to the health of the river up near Fernvale. ...

Going back to where my adventure started!

My first fish on fly was caught at Lowood bend on my first ever outing to a river holding a long rod! The book said that fish hang around rocks so I managed to land a cast just in front of that one in the background (I spent most of the morning in tangles amongst the long grass), and this greedy Spangled Perch smashed it.

It's easy this fly fishing game I thought to myself. Needless to say, that fish remains the largest I've caught in Qld 🤣

So come out to Lowood tomorrow at 8am and listen to our experts (not me!) edumucate us in the art of stream craft. It's more about listening than casting so we will walk the bank and learn everything we need to make our adventures more successful. Do bring a rod along if you would like to use your new found expertise after the demonstration!

Turn off the Brisbane Valley Highway onto Wivenhoe Pocket road at the far south of Twin Bridges Reserve and meet us by the river. Its's a COVID Safe event, so signing in is a must. Members and guests are all very welcome!

Well we have to don't we?!

After Geoff so fantastically donated half an Alpacas worth of multi coloured tying material of which many of us managed to grab a few bags worth at Sundays fishathon, it seems only reasonable that we have an Alpaca shaped theme night for the club's Fly Tie on Zoom this evening (usual time, usual place for members).

The BFFC Family at its finest.

What a spectacular turnout for the club with over 20 rods on the water today. Wonderful to catch up (in a COVID safe manner) with members and guests for a great day out.

Catching got off to a slow start, but the lower tide produced some good fish with recent member Bill S showing us how its done with a couple of flatties, one of which was well over the 40cm mark.

Adding to the action, Geoff O, knocked it out of the park by bringing a vast selection of dyed and natural alpaca fur that he washed and prepared himself for us all to use for fly tying. Epic! My Mrs is googling up spinning wheels, so get in quick before its spun into finest wool! As expected My dog spent his afternoon with his head in the bag :D Thanks also to Daryl for bringing in some foam for the kit too :)

Thanks all for continuing to support the club despite the COVID challenges and our lack of home, we'll see you on Zoom next Wednesday for a fly tie - I'll be using Alpaca! ...

Get those clousers out, its Flathead time!

Fisher-folk, this Sundays BFFC trip will be conducted under the operating guidance of a COVID Safe Event Checklist as is our legal obligation for groups of over 10 of you fine people in a restricted area. It's been a lot of work to get organised and of course brings with it some rules. Don't be put off though as Fly fisher-folk are the best social distancers in the world by the very nature of the activity.

So here are the rules:
1. Sign the contact tracing register.
2. No hugging the Executive.
3. Keep clean - Hand sanitiser will be provided.
4. No hugging each other either.
5. Maintain good social distancing at all times.

If you are ill, feeling unwell or displaying any flu like symptoms, please seek medical advice and DO NOT attend this or any other event!

Personally, I'll be using my 9' 8 wt social distancer to keep everyone at bay.

We'll be meeting for registration from 9 am near the boat ramp at Hornibrook pier, members and guests are very welcome to come along for what looks like will be a very splendid morning either on or beside the water.

The land based anglers are likely to fish the flats to the North West and access may be easier via Hayesmouth Parade. Boaties can go wherever you like! Please still come to registration first if even you plan to drive up there to fish!

And pack a chair - we'll get together for a club meet at lunch time on the sand (there will be plenty of it by then!)

Biggest flatty wins the day :) ...
